As many of you know, I lost my mother on May 10th, last year. It is my hope that with the help of this site that I can help prevent someone else from feeling that same loss by raising awareness about women’s cancers, their symptoms and treatments. My hope for “the inside story” would be that one day it will do as much for women’s cancers as the Breast Cancer Society has for Breast cancer awareness, research and treatment.
Women’s cancers. What do you know about them? Probably nothing. Probably because no one wants to talk about what goes on “down there”. It makes us uncomfortable to think about things “down there” let alone admit that things can go wrong.
It was estimated that in 2012 over 32%* of the women diagnosed with gynaecological cancer will or have died because of that cancer.
Because no one wants to talk about what goes on “down there”.
Cancer goes on “down there”. Cancer is treatable. Cancer is curable. But we need to talk about it. We need to talk about it with our friends, our sisters, our aunts and our mothers. Men need to talk about it too – with their girlfriends, their wives, their friends and their moms. These are the women we are losing.
